What is SEO?

SEO is the art of being able to attract relevant search engine traffic to a website, for the purpose of increasing sales and leads, readership, brand awareness or publicity. SEO(Search Engine Optimization) is not something that you can do in a hour, nor can you pay $29.95 and expect results. Optimizing a website takes time and effort to ensure that you are driving the people that will want to buy your products or services or read your words, right to your website’s front page.

The first step for any SEO that is about to take on a new client is to learn about the business. The SEO will want to know about your products and services, know your target market and know the geographic area that you want to service. SEO’s that promise fantastic listings without even asking what your business is about will not be beneficial to your wallet, nor your business.

In more technical terms (according to Wikipedia),

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.

For the layman, SEO helps you make more money from your site if you sell a product or service or have ads on your site, increases your readership if you are a blogger and generally increase the amount of people that will come into contact with your site.

SEO isn’t as expensive as you might think and is a great return on your investment, unlike Yellow Pages or other print advertising. Although not many people can be considered experts at SEO, RTP Online has many references from business owners that know the value of our hard work.
